Directions: For this part, you are allowed 30 minutes to write an essay on online dictionaries. You can start your essay with the sentence “Online dictionaries are becoming increasingly popular.” You should write at least 120 words but no more than 180 words.
Online dictionaries are becoming increasingly popular. For instance, it is increasingly prevalent for individuals, especially college students and white-collar workers who feel obliged to learn a foreign language, to have a dictionary on their phone.
On the one hand, most of us have formed an unrealistic picture of the dictionary apps or dictionaries on the webs. We sometimes imagine them to be a sort of paradise where it seems that we could obtain a wealth of vocabularies in a second, which improves our study efficiency. The other side of the picture, however, is quite the opposite. It is because of excessive use of such dictionaries that we will find it impossible for us, English learners with several significant English exams like CET-4, to keep those English words in mind, thereby blocking the progress in the lexical resources.
Hence, the situation being so urgent, it is high time that online dictionaries were used in a reasonable way, rather than overindulgence in them. Furthermore, provided that one is eager to learn a foreign language, no one would fail to admit that practice, rather than those online dictionaries, makes perfect.
